My Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is learning. Learning is teaching. My teaching philosophy starts with my own values as a person. I believe in honesty, commitment, and hard work. If I model these values with my students, student's parents, and peers they will understand my values as a teacher. I also believe that if you show respect to your students that they will learn to show the same respect to you. My students are the number one priority. I believe that once you achieve the certain level of respect and understanding that you and your students both want, teaching will be fun.

There are many reasons that I wanted to become a teacher. I want to make a difference. I want to change a child's life for the better and open them to ideas and things that can help them in life. Life is changing daily. Technology is changing everyday. We as teachers need to help students learn about the future. Teachers are not just teachers, they are instructors, friends, heros, role models, and listeners. I think teaching is a great accomplishment. Being able to teach the future of tomorrow is something to be proud of.

Technology in the Classroom

How important is technology in the classroom? Should teachers be technology literate? I think that technology is very important in the classroom. With EDM310, the class I just took on computer technology, I have learned many new and different programs and techniques to use for the classroom. I now have great sites as well that will help me with lessons and ideas.

Am I technology literate? I know now that I am more technology literate now than I was before I took the EDM310 class at South. I have learned new programs such as Delicious, uTube, iMovie, podcasts, Twitter, Google Earth, ALEX, and Skype just to name a few. I know all of these resources will help me better my classroom and teaching techniques.

Being a Life-long Learner

I truly believe that everyone is always learning. We learn something new everyday. I think that not only students are learning new things each day, but we as teachers should also strive to learn. We learn not only from other teachers or professors but we learn from our students and children. Everyone should be life-long learners. We as teachers should be open minded about teaching and always open to new ideas and teaching techniques. If we model learning each and every day our students will be able to see how important learning really is. Teaching is learning. Learning is teaching.

Learning Environment

Wouldn't it be great to see students excited about coming to school? That is what I want to do. I want to create a classroom and learning environment that is fun and inviting for my students. I want to create lessons for my every day classes that have the students actively engaged in learning. I hope to have my students wanting to learn more. I want to start my creating a very inviting classroom that is suitable for the grade level I am teaching. I want my classroom to always have student work up and current for not only the students to view but also for parents and visitors.

Teaching Strategies for my Classroom

There are many different teaching techniques and strategies that can be used in the classroom. I know that in my classroom I want to have a good communication with my students and parents, I want my students to be actively engaged in their work, and I want to practice respect.

Communication is very important in education. As a teacher, I want my parents to be involved in their child's education and always know what is going on in their child's life. I think that communication is a very important aspect when it comes to teaching. I know parents will value this as parents and I want to carry an open relationship with my students as well.

As a teacher I want my students to enjoy coming to class and always wanting to learn more. If students come and read a text book and take notes every day they are less likely to pay attention and really benefit from the lesson. I believe technology is a very important component in the classroom. I hope to incorporate technology into my every day lessons.

Respect is a major tool. Once the students realize that you as a teacher respect them and their values they will respect you and your classroom. Students want to be respected. I know that my day in the classroom will be much more fun and eventful.

Always Learning

I do not know everything. I learn something new every day.

I am not here to act like I know everything. I want my students to know that I am an active learner just like them. I want them to know that I don't know all there is to teaching. I know that my students will teach me many things that I don't know. I hope to give back to them in return. I think that all teachers should be open to learning new teaching techniques and ideas. If teachers teach one way and never change, the world will continually change around them. Students will not get the full benefit of learning. My thoughts are that we should all be open to new things no matter what it is.
